Become a Wellbeing Ambassador

Volunteering has given me the opportunity to be a voice for young people, and support other young people who may be struggling.
– Ellie

We get the chance to help shape local mental health services for other young people.
Thanks to PEERS training, we make real change in Newport. – Ben

Help Make a Difference in Mental Health

Are you aged 14–25 and live in Newport, Monmouthshire, Torfaen or Blaenau Gwent?

Do you care about mental health and wellbeing for young people?

If so, you could be a Wellbeing Ambassador!
As a volunteer, you’ll join a friendly team and help others in your community. You can take part in different fun and meaningful activities to support youth mental health in Gwent.

What Do Wellbeing Ambassadors Do?

You can choose the activities that interest you most:

Raise Awareness
Talk about mental health at schools, events, and help lead training sessions.

Share Youth Voices
Make sure young people are heard within our organisation and beyond. Our youth voice group feeds directly into our board of directors, allowing us to share the opinions of young people at all levels.  We are integral to the recruiting and hiring of staff at Mind in Gwent through our youth panel at the interview stage of recruitment. Our voices are equally valued and heard!

Support Other Young People
Help us run Peer Support Groups for other young people.

Create Content
We have a voice with our volunteer run podcast where we share our views and come up with new creative ideas! Give it a listen here

Volunteer at Events
We have the opportunity to volunteer at other Mind in Gwent events

Flexible Volunteering That Works for You

  • You’ll start with a fun training day.
  • Choose the areas you want to focus on.
  • Get extra training based on your interests.
  • Join online or in-person meetings.
  • Come to our weekly team meeting (if you can!)
  • There are no strict rules—join when you’re free and take a break when you need to. We want this to work for you.

What’s in it for you?

  • Gain knowledge and understanding about mental health and wellbeing. Knowledge that you can used to support others or to support your own wellbeing.
  • Learn valuable skills – these are great to add to your CV.
  • Opportunities to attend events, training sessions and fun activities.
  • Develop friendships and a sense of belonging with people who are equally as passionate about mental health as you are.
  • Make a difference in your local community.
Do I have to live nearby?

No! As long as you live in the Gwent area, you can join. We run lots of activities online and in person, so you can join in from wherever you are.

How much time does it take?

You decide! Most meetings last about 1 hour each week, but there’s no pressure to come every time. You choose what works best for your schedule.

Can I choose what I do?

Yes! After your training day, you pick what interests you most. We’ll also share all new opportunities with you so you never miss out.

What if I change my mind?

That’s okay! If you decide volunteering isn’t right for you, or just need a break, you can pause and come back when you’re ready. We want this experience to feel good for you.

Can I use this volunteering for Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme / Welsh Baccalaureate hours?

Yes, you can definitely do that and we are happy to confirm you have completed hours for either DofE or Welsh Bacc Awards. Many of our volunteers have started with us to do their hours and stayed on because they enjoyed volunteering with us.

Will my travel costs be covered?

Yes, if you need to travel anywhere to volunteer with us, we will cover the cost of your travel.
