Helping Migrants Feel at Home and Stay Safe in Newport
If you’ve moved to Newport from another country and need help with housing or settling into your new life, we’re here for you.
Our Migrant Service gives friendly, practical help to people from migrant backgrounds who need support to find, set up, and keep their home. We also help you access benefits, health care, education, and more.
What We Can Help You With
We give person-centred support – that means we listen to you, understand your needs, and help in ways that work for you.
Here’s how we can support you:
Who Can Use This Service?
This service is for migrants aged 18 and over who live in Newport and need support with housing.
You may be eligible if you are:
- A refugee with granted refugee status following application for asylum
- An EU citizen with Settled or Pre-Settled Status
- An EU visa holder who arrived after 31 December 2021
- A migrant from EEA countries (like Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein)
Who Cannot Use This Service?
People who do not have access to public funds cannot use this service. But don’t worry – we’ll try to signpost you to other services that can help.
This service also does not support those in the Vulnerable Persons Resettlement Scheme (VPRS). That scheme helps refugees from Syria, Afghanistan, and Ukraine and is run by the local council.
