Mind in Gwent’s Mental Health Roadshow Comes to Lysaght Institute

A drop in mental health roadshow designed specifically for children and young people aged 11–25 is coming to Newport.

Offering free arts & crafts activities and a safe space for open conversations about mental health and wellbeing, the roadshow is taking place at the Lysaght Institute from 10.30am to 3.30pm on Saturday 28th February and Saturday 14th March.

Open to any child and young person between the ages of 11 and 25, the roadshow will be a chance to learn about improving wellbeing and mental health. In partnership with Newport City Council Youth & Play Service the roadshows respond to growing concerns about anxiety, low mood, exam stress, social pressures, and the impact of social media on young people’s wellbeing.

By offering a free of cost, drop in event, roadshow aims to break down stigma and make support visible, approachable and engaging.

The roadshow will feature:

  • Free fun arts & crafts activities
  • Freebies
  • Peer support and youth-led discussions
  • Creative sessions focused on coping strategies and resilience
  • Information on local services and how to access help

Sarah Henderson, Mind in Gwent, Head of Children, Young People and Families Services said:

Children and young people have told us they want support that feels accessible, non-judgemental and designed with them in mind. This roadshow is about creating safe spaces for honest conversations, giving practical tools for managing wellbeing, and making sure no young person in Newport feels they have to struggle alone.”

Nazia Ali, Newport City Council Youth and Play Service Training and Development Co-Ordinator says:

Newport City Council is proud to support the Mental Health Roadshow. We know that the past few years have been challenging for many young people, and we want to support and encourage open conversations on mental health.”

All sessions will be free to attend, no need to book, children and young people can drop in when it’s convenient for them.”
