New resource to help young people talk to doctors about mental health

At Mind in Gwent, we know that speaking to a doctor about your mental health can feel overwhelming, especially if it’s your first time asking for support.

That’s why we’ve been working in partnership with local young people, medical students at Cardiff University, and our Children, Young People and Families team to create a new resource: Talking to the Doctor about your Mental Health.

The booklet has been co-produced with young people to help make conversations with healthcare professionals feel more manageable. It includes practical guidance, tips on preparing for appointments, and information about what to expect when discussing mental health with a GP or other healthcare professional.

The resource was recently showcased by Dr Ffion Wiseman, one of Mind in Gwent’s longest-standing volunteers, during an informative session exploring the importance of having open conversations about mental health and how the toolkit can support young people to access the help they need.

We’re delighted to now make this resource available and hope it gives young people the confidence to take the first step in seeking support. You can download the booklet here.
